Spotify’s new AI-driven DJ spins tracks just for you

With a new function called DJ, Spotify is the most recent firm to embrace the AI wave. Spotify can produce what essentially amounts to a radio station tailored to your musical preferences using an AI-generated voice. It is similar to the company’s other algorithmically created playlists in some respects, but you will now hear the voice introductions and other commentary that we generally associate with listening to radio. All Spotify Premium customers in the United States and Canada are currently able to use the function, which is currently in beta.

According to the business, DJ will employ AI in two different methods. It makes use of generative AI technology developed by Open AI, the company behind the now-notorious Chat GPT AI, to enable Spotify’s human editors to “scale their innate knowledge in ways never before possible,” while a separate AI platform creates the artificial DJ “voice” you hear when you interact with DJ.

Even though the DJ voice is artificial, some listeners may recognize it. That’s because Xavier “X” Jernigan, Spotify’s head of cultural partnerships, provided audio samples for the AI model to learn from. One of the hosts on Spotify’s morning programmed, The Get Up, has been X.

The AI technology is comparable to Osnos Voice Control, which was trained using Giancarlo Esposito’s given audio samples. There might be more voices available in the future because Spotify promises it will continually improve and innovate the DJ feature.

To access Spotify DJ:

  • Go to your Music Feed on Home in the Spotify mobile app for iOS or Android.
  • Select Play on the DJ card.
  • The DJ will serve a lineup of music alongside short commentary on the songs and artists picked for you.
  • If you don’t like the music the DJ is picking, select the DJ button at the bottom-right of the screen to be taken to a different genre, artist, or mood.
