Facebook Is Bringing Messenger Back to Its Mobile App
Meta is testing how to unify functionality for both apps.
According to Alison, the business is “testing the ability for people to access their Messenger mailbox from the Facebook app. In the upcoming months, Facebook intends to broaden testing.
Messenger was first introduced in 2011 as a feature of Facebook, but in 2014 it was removed and turned into a separate app. Soon after, it added support for voice calls, location sharing, and peer-to-peer payments.
Messenger has added many new features over the past ten years, such as encrypted chats, personalized emojis, and video chats. Additionally, Facebook has been attempting to improve multi app communication between Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Direct messaging on Instagram and Messenger already allows users to communicate with one another.
Community chats, a function for having conversations that Meta introduced to Facebook Groups in 2022, also had some success, according to Meta. To facilitate connections, the business wants to include more messaging features within Facebook.
