Yes, Elden Ring will soon receive DLC. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is officially in development after more than a year of rumours following the critically acclaimed game’s release.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree developer From Software announced the news on its social media pages, stating merely that the game “is currently in development.” There was no mention of a release date or any plot information, but the expansion will be available on all of the same platforms as the basic game, according to the Japanese website, and the tweet did contain some concept art. In it, a strange female riding a horse approaches some ruins and a gloomy Erdtree in the distance. The key art seems to hint at a darker tone and a new character while reiterating that Shadow of the Erdtree will take place in a vast open environment, though we aren’t sure what any of this means just yet.
Elden Ring, a game with a sizable open world that rivalled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, was released on February 25, 2022, to widespread critical acclaim and numerous Game of the Year awards, including our own at Digital Trends. Fans hoped Elden Ring would receive DLC in the same way that many previous From Software games had.
Up until now, the majority of the updates have been minor tweaks, with the December Colosseum-adding update being the most prominent. It’s a relief for Elden Ring fans to have some brand-new content to look forward to even though Shadow of the Erdtree doesn’t have a release date.
For the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, Elden Ring is currently available. There is no release date yet for Shadow of the Erdtree.
