Google Unveils Bard, Its Chat GPT Rival for AI-Powered

The battle for AI chatbot supremacy is intensifying as a Microsoft event centered on Chat GPT is anticipated today.

As the competition to employ AI heats up, Google on Monday unveiled Bard, its own chatbot that is comparable to Chat GPT.

Google CEO Sunder Piche tweeted on Monday that Bard “seeks to integrate the depth of the world’s knowledge with the strength, intelligence, and creativity of our massive language models.” It uses data from the internet to deliver original, excellent responses.

Google’s response to the growing consumer interest in chatbots is Bard, which it created in response to Chat GPT’s success and user-friendly UI as well as the popularity of chatbots in general. The development of Bard, Chat GPT, and another by China’s Baidu might mark the next step in how humans interact with AI and technology, potentially transforming everything from work to search. Today, Microsoft is rumored to have a conference to talk about how it would integrate with Open AI’s Chat GPT.

On Monday, Google praised its own system. The Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or Lambda, is what drives Bard. According to the corporation, its new AI will leverage data from the web to generate original answers to inquiries or provide in-depth information on those issues.

Bard will be available Monday to selected testers and then to the public in the coming weeks.

According to a blog post by CEO Sunder Piche, Bard is based on a lightweight version of Lambda that utilizes less computer power, allowing it to scale to more individuals and deliver more input. In order to satisfy Google’s “high standard for quality, safety, and roundedness in real-world facts,” Piche emphasized that feedback is essential.

According to a Google representative, the objective at this time is not to make money off of Bard. The business withheld information regarding advertisements or potential future revenue models for Bard. A Google representative stated that the business seeks to maintain a healthy online ecosystem and that as AI technologies are developed, delivering search traffic to content creators and news outlets would be a top goal.

The Chat GPT angle

Microsoft, a competitor of Google, won’t remain still. According to an invitation, CEO Satya Nadella will be presenting “progress on a few intriguing projects” on Tuesday at a press conference at the company’s headquarters. Details about Microsoft’s ambitions to incorporate Chat GPT into its technology may be revealed at this event.

Recent days have seen the appearance of screenshots allegedly demonstrating how Microsoft will incorporate Chat GPT into its Bing search engine. They mentioned a number of things, including the fact that it will be built on Open AI’s GPT-4, a more recent language model than Chat GPT’s GPT-3.5. An inquiry for comment was not immediately answered by Microsoft.

A big language model, a type of artificial intelligence used by Chat GPT, was trained on a significant amount of internet data. That kind of model employs a transformer, an AI device invented by Google. Even if its results can be deceptive or incorrect, Chat GPT’s success across a variety of activities — from developing software and passing tests to providing guidance on how to remove a sandwich from a VCR — has catapulted it into the spotlight.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already present all around us, assisting with tasks like detecting credit card fraud and text message translation. But with Chat GPT’s high standards, it’s obvious that technology will play a bigger role in our lives as we rely more on digital assistants and online resources.

DeepMind, a division of Google AI, is also collaborating. Demise Hassabis, the chief executive, revealed to Time that his business is thinking about testing the private beta version of Sparrow, an AI chatbot, in 2023.

In 2017, Google provided information on the transformers technology, and since then, it has become a staple of some of the most powerful AI systems available. In terms of public speed testing at least, Nvidia’s new H100 processor is the best in the business when it comes to AI acceleration. It now has special circuitry for accelerating transformers.

Language-specific systems like Chat GPT, Google’s Lambda and more recent Palm, as well as others from businesses like AI21 Labs, Adept AI Labs, and Cohere, can benefit from the significant language model revolution that resulted in AI. However, huge language models are also utilized for other tasks, such as box stacking and the analysis of genetic data to find novel medications. They are useful for answering inquiries because, among other things, they are good at producing text.

The resignation of AI researcher Timbit Gebur in 2020 garnered negative press for Google, which now has a programmed focusing on responsible AI and machine learning (ML) technologies. According to Google Research Vice President Marian Croak, “Building ML models and products in a responsible and ethical manner is both our primary focus and core commitment.”

Google is proud to highlight its extensive AI knowledge. According to The New York Times, Chat GPT caused a “code red” emergency within Google and brought Larry Page and Sergey Bring back to active work.
