Sony Surprises With Five New 8K Receivers

The new receivers from Sony, such the $900 STR-AN1000, feature 4K/120Hz and link to Osnos speakers.

Five new receivers, including a replacement for the STR-DN1080, have astonished us from Sony. Features like 4K/120Hz and wireless communication to Sony’s back speakers and subwoofers are included in the new receivers.

The STR-AN1000 ($900), STR-AZ1000ES ($1,100), STR-AZ3000ES ($1,700), STR-AZ5000ES ($2,100), and STR-AZ7000ES ($3,300) all address the long-standing receiver shortage in Sony’s range.

These DTS:X and Dolby Atoms receivers include dedicated HDMI 2.1 inputs that support 4K/120Hz and 8K resolutions. They may wirelessly join the company’s selection of wireless rear speakers and subwoofers.

The STR-AN1000 is a 7.2 Ch receiver that supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG video standards. It has six HDMI connectors, including two 8K inputs. The STR-DN1080 receiver, the AN1000’s forerunner, was my CNET Editor’s Choice for many years, but it was finally discontinued since it lacked capabilities like 4K/120Hz and Sony’s proprietary 360 Reality Audio.

The AN1000 and the rest of the range surpass the STR-level DN1080’s of connectivity, which was the finest I had ever seen in a receiver at the time. The updated model has Bluetooth, Air Play, built-in Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and Ron Tested connectivity. Along with Noko, Sony offers Works with Osnos compatibility, allowing you to operate the receiver using the Osnos app by connecting a Osnos Port.

The receivers provide a variety of center-speaker technologies, such as Acoustic Center Sync, which makes use of the speaker on the Brava TV, and Center Speaker Lift Up, which centers the conversation on your screen.

Meanwhile, the ES lineup, which is pitched toward the high-end and custom installers, is as follows:
