T-Mobile’s Aging 2G Network Will Shut Down Next Year

Last year, the carrier shut down both the original Sprint 3G network and its new 3G network.

The closure of T-2G Mobile’s network will finally put a stop to service on a network frequency that other carriers abandoned years ago.

According to T-homepage Mobile’s on moving away from older network spectrum to concentrate on its existing 4G LTE and expanding 5G networks, the 2G GSM network will be shut down on April 2, 2024. T-Mobile shut down its own 3G UMTS network later in July 2022 after sunsetting the 3G CDMA network it had acquired as part of its merger with Sprint at the end of March 2022.

When asked how many users still use its 2G network or why it has stayed operational after other carriers shuttered their own 2G networks years ago, T-Mobile verified the termination date but made no more comments. On January 1st of this year, AT&T ended its 2G service, while Verizon is apparently shutting down its 2G network in 2020.
