YouTube TV increases its monthly prices by $8 – is now the time to switch?

The cost of a monthly subscription to YouTube TV has increased by $8, from $65 to $73. The action follows the company’s statement that a Multiview functionality for sports channels would be added. While new consumers are already being charged more for the streaming service, which is owned by Google, the price increase will take effect for current subscribers on April 18.

The last time YouTube TV increased its fees was a while ago. The streaming service raised subscription prices from $50 to $65 at that time in 2020. The monthly fee for the service was only $35 when it was first introduced in 2017.

Beginning on April 18, existing subscribers will start paying the new rates, while new subscribers will start at the old rates. Such reductions will not be altered for individuals on promotional or trial programmed.

Not everything is bad news. If you value the addition of 4K quality, YouTube TV has actually cut the cost of that add-on by 50%: 4K Plus is now only $10 per month, rather than $20. The first year of the 4K + package is only $5 per month if you are a new customer.

Why have prices risen? According to The Hollywood Reporter, an email to subscribers stated, “Since content prices have increased and we continue to invest in the quality of our service, we are adjusting our fee to keep delivering you the best possible service.”

Unavoidably, some of those higher expenses must be attributed to YouTube TV’s recent acquisition of the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket games. Fall coverage of those games will start, but the cost of the add-on has not yet been decided.
